122. Drowning Rose: Marika Cobbold and Isabel Ashdown
Speakers: Isabel Ashdown, Marika Cobbold
Marika Cobbold and Isabel Ashdown discuss how they set about bringing their protagonists face to face with the past. In Marika Cobbold’s funny and dazzlingly clever Drowning Rose, V&A Museum ceramics restorer Eliza Cummings receives an unexpected phone call… drawing her back 25 years. Cobbold’s six previous novels include Guppies for Tea (shortlisted for the Sunday Express Book of the Year) and, most recently, Aphrodite’s Workshop for Reluctant Lovers. In Hurry Up and Wait, Isabel Ashdown takes us back to the treacherous territory of adolescent friendships as Sarah Ribbons prepares for a school reunion. Ashdown’s first novel Glasshopper, published to rave reviews, won the Mail on Sunday Novel Competition.
