Who Can Apply

Groups or individuals of any age from, or with strong links to, the Yorkshire Region are invited to submit an application to present a Fringe Event at the Ilkley Literature Festival 2019.  Writers, poets and live literature performers, playwrights, singer songwriters, rap artists and comedians writing their own material, are warmly encouraged to submit suggestions for a performance or presentation at the 2019 llkley Literature Festival Fringe which runs from 4 – 20 October.

Please note: the Festival Fringe is intended for non-professional writers and others who don’t set out to make a living from their writing work. Professional writers are welcome to make submissions if they would like to, but they should be aware that there are no fees for Fringe appearances.

What Kind of Event

Our selection aims to encompass a range of art forms and events to reflect the diversity of the region.

Exciting or unusual events, events which include or draw on other art forms, or events which experiment with something new are very welcome.

Events in the last few years have included readings, discussions, performances, poetry, dramatised readings, new stand up routines, storytelling, events with music and/or film and dance, short stories, launches of new collections and off-the-wall events, including a musical about the Brontës and an event exploring ‘swim hiking’ which took place in the River Wharfe.

Most Fringe events are hosted in the Ilkley Playhouse, however proposals for Fringe events that take place elsewhere, for example on Ilkley Moor, the bandstand, or in local pubs are also welcome.

We work with each selected group or individual to identity a suitable venue, date and time, so that it compliments other events in the programme. The majority of Fringe events last 60 minutes but you are welcome to propose shorter events.
