We are delighted to bring you the 2019 Ilkley Literature Festival programme.

From the Poet Laureate to emerging writers, from stars of stage and screen to leading academics and journalists, you’ll find lots to entertain, engage and inspire you.

Headline names include David Suchet, Prue Leith, Alastair Campbell, Gyles Brandreth, Gerald Scarfe, Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, Caroline Criado Perez,  A.C.Grayling and Kirsty Wark.

Our fiction events include Booker Prize longlisted authors John Lanchester and Oyinkan Braithwaite as well as Sadie Jones, Tim Lott, Peter Robinson, Denise Mina, Laura Purcell, Lucy Caldwell, Yan Ge and Emma Kennedy.

On the poetry side, Poet Laureate Simon Armitage opens the festival on Friday 4 October, there are events with Pam Ayres, Raymond Antrobus and Lemn Sissay, a series of reading from some of the best contemporary Irish poets, including Alan Gillis, Martina Evans and Stephen Sexton and new commissions and performances from 2019’s Poets in Residence: Colette Bryce, Genevieve Carver and Shash Trevett.

There’s also a huge range of events covering history, science, politics, philosophy and much more, with authors including Tom Holland, Tracy Borman, Angela Saini, Toby Faber, Oliver Morton, Alys Fowler, Thomas Penn and Virginia Nicholson.
