Fire Walk with Me: The First Cut

Fire Walk with Me: The First Cut
Ilkley Town Hall Sunday 9th October 7pm – 8pm

A collaborative event between Ilkley Arts and the  Ilkley Literature Festival comprising image and text, film and spoken word. It is the final event for the Ilkley Art Trail and promises to be an enjoyable evening.

The artist Filippa Dobson and Ilkley Literature Festival Apprentice Poet in Residence Mark Pajak explore the deep relationships between the body (human and non-human) and the land. Filippa will begin the evening by reading an Ilkley fable about a girl, a hare and a stone. Mark will conclude proceedings with a poetry reading.
The First Cut is Filippa Dobson’s public land art response to the devastation of wild fire upon Ilkley Moor in 2006 and is part of a larger project Fire Walk with Me.

The cutting of the heather is part of the environmental regeneration of the area and was carried out by the head gamekeeper Simon Nelson, the Bingley Moor Partnership. The film of ‘The First Cut’ was made by Clare Charnley.
