Stanza Stones: Events





Three magical performances launch the new Stanza Stones Poetry Trail from Marsden to Ilkley.

Enjoy sunset on Nab Hill, catch the evening light on Ilkley Moor and experience Pule Hill from Marsden, as leading UK poet Simon Armitage and some of Yorkshire’s most talented young writers, dancers and film makers celebrate the Pennine landscape in these unique midsummer events, combining dance, poetry, bicycles and film.

Marsden Opening Event

This is a fully accessible indoor seated event.


Oxenhope Event

Saturday 19 May, 7.30pm

No parking on site. Free coaches to the site depart from Oxenhope Village Centre, The Park, Hebden Road, Oxenhope, BD22 9QL from 6:30pm

Tickets: Free (booking is essential & will include instructions)

This is a 40 min standing event with a gentle 10 minute walk uphill over rough ground.


Ilkley Moor, Cow & Calf Quarry Finale

Saturday 16 June, 8.30pm

No parking at site. A free coach to the site will leave Ilkley Railway Station, Station Road, Ilkley LS29 8HF from 7.30pm.

Tickets: Free (booking is essential & will include instructions)

This is a 30 – 40 min standing event with a paved uphill walk.


Stone Carving Workshop with lettercarver Pip Hall
Saturday 16 June, 2-4pm

Suitable for adults and children aged 10 upwards


National Trust Guided Walk to the Marsden Stanza Stone

Saturday 12th May, 10am – 2pm

The National Trust are running A Tramp o’er the Moors to celebrate Marsden Moor’s literary heritage and it happens to be on the day of our Stanza Stones launch in Marsden. Stanza Stones fans are very welcome to join the walk. Wear sturdy footwear and bring warm clothing, as well as food and drink.

8 mile moderate walk including one steep climb and rough terrain.

Depart from Marsden Railway Station, Marsden HD7 6AX

Guided Walk to the Oxenhope Stanza Stone
Saturday 19 May, 2-4.30pm

4.8 mile moderate walk with uphill and uneven ground.

Guided Walk to the Ilkley Stanza Stones

5.4 mile moderate walk with uphill and uneven ground.

Saturday 16 June, 2.30 – 3.30pm

Easy walk with some uphill and uneven ground, suitable for faimiles and children 8+
