Young People’s Club Nights
The next Club Night will be the ‘Hearts’ Club Night on Saturday 11th February 2012 at 7.30pm.
Otley Courthouse, Otley LS21 3AN.
If you are 12-16, based in the Wharfe Valley, Leeds or Bradford and write your own songs contact us for a slot to perform.
Tickets £5 on the door.
What is it?
Every couple of months we stage one of our very popular Young People’s Club Nights at Otley Courthouse Arts Centre on Courthouse Street, Otley LS21 3AN.
We take over the building and teenagers perform work they have written themselves to an audience of over 90 other young people. There’s a stage, lighting rig, backstage area, juice bar and an MC to introduce your act.
Does your band write their own songs?
Are you a young singer songwriter or budding comedian?
Or perhaps you have scripted and made your own short film and would like to show it?
Maybe you could try performing as a rap poet or read a short story or poem you’ve written?
If so, contact us for a slot to perform. And tell all your friends to come and support you!
How do I get Tickets
You can get tickets which cost £5 on the door or in advance 01943 467466 or online from www.otleycourthouse.org.uk.
Performers get in free.
How good do I have to be to perform?
Some people have never performed before! (Jo who won the Fame Factor competition sung the first song she had ever written and it was only her third ever performance). Other people are quite experienced. Nobody minds if it’s your first time – just be brave and ask for a slot. We often come out and hear new bands in rehearsal so we can give you advice on whether you are ready or not, or you can send us a link to your Facebook page.
Can I perform something written by someone else?
You can’t do covers and you can’t do anything you haven’t written yourself. The only exception is if your friend writes something and is too shy to perform or if you’ve written it together. In that case you can perform it but they need to come along too!
Do I have to bring my own equipment?
We provide mics and work it out so that not all the bands bring a drum kit and we share amps, but you will need to bring your own guitars etc if you are playing.
How long will my slot last?
It depends – you can read just one poem or your band can do two songs. We ask for comedy sets to be up to 10 minutes.
Can it count as part of my Coursework?
Yes – quite a lot of people perform work they have created as part of their coursework. And you can arrange to video your performance if you need a record.
Can my parents come and watch?
We know your proud parents want to come and see how well you’re doing. We generally ask them to sit upstairs in the balcony so the young people can have downstairs to themselves.
Is there a bar?
There’s a juice bar which serves all the usual soft drinks and sells crisps and chocolate. Absolutely no alcohol allowed – if people bring it in the police have asked us to pour it away and you will get banned from the building.
Any other rules?
The main rule is have a great time!
And we have to ask that no one does any crowd surfing, slam dancing, or getting on stage. We’re a lot smaller than Leeds Fest and someone could get hurt.
Still unsure? Why not have a look at Luke Collins’ review of the ‘Schools Out’ club night in July 2010 to get a feel for the night!
News on May 2011’s ’Fame Factor’ Club Night

Best Material: Printed Lies from Allerton Grange in only their second ever public performance.
Best Act on the Night (voted by the audience): Mojo Jojo An anarchic, theatrical, crowd-pleasing performance that included a hilarious pastiche song about Pable Pablo the Matador.
