3. Jane Rogoyska: Hotel Exile
Step inside the Hotel Lutetia. A ‘grand’ Parisian hotel on the bohemian Left Bank which once counted Joyce, Picasso and Matisse among its regular guests. During the 1930s and 40s, the hotel bore witness to waves of dramatic and terrible events. First came exiles fleeing Nazi persecution; then German intelligence officers during the Occupation; and finally, in 1945, deportees returning from concentration camps. In Hotel Exile Jane Rogoyska lets the Lutetia’s walls talk. The result is a story of what happens on the edges of war.
