Join Kadija George Sesay Hon FRSL, Margaret Busby and Kerry Young for a fascinating insight into the role of judges in literary awards as they discuss what judges are looking for, the challenges of the judging process and the role of prizes in championing new writers. All three are former Head Judges of the SI Leeds Literary Prize, Kadija George Sesay Hon FRSL is a judge for the inaugural Evening Standard/Netflix Stories prize, announced September 2021, and Margaret Busby chaired the Booker Prize in 2020, including reading 162 books during the pandemic. The event will look forward to the 2022 SI Leeds Literary Prize, when the award for unpublished fiction by black and Asian women writers will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Prize alumni including Mahsuda Snaith (Finding Home, The Things We Thought We Knew), Kit de Waal (The Trick to Time, My Name is Leon) and Amita Murray (Finding Rose).
Fiona Goh, Director of the SI Leeds Literary Prize, will be chairing this event.
The SI Leeds Literary Prize is a collaboration between SI Leeds, Peepal Tree Press, The Opportunity Centre and Ilkley Literature Festival.
