Writing YA with Liz Hyder
What was the book that had the greatest impact on you as a young person? A story that perhaps transformed your thinking, ignited your imagination and stayed with you long after you turned eighteen… Have you ever wondered how you could capture the attention of a younger audience with your own writing?
Join award-winning writer Liz Hyder for this fast-paced two-hour workshop on writing for young adults (12+ year olds). Hyder will share her tips and tricks, mistakes she’s made (so you don’t make them too!), handy exercises, and more to entertain and enthrall young readers. Together, you’ll explore ideas, world-building, character, structure, and editing. You’ll leave this workshop inspired, informed, and armed with a range of tools to use in your own work.
Liz Hyder is the award-winning author of four novels, two for young adults and two for grown-ups. Her debut YA novel Bearmouth won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize for Older Readers, the Branford Boase Award, and was The Times Children’s Book of the Year. The Gifts, an acclaimed historical fiction with a dash of fantasy, was runner-up for the McKitterick Prize, and followed by The Illusions. Her latest YA book, The Twelve, won the Nero Book Award for Children’s Fiction, the Tir na n-Og Award for Children’s Writing (English language), and was a book of the year in The Guardian and the FT. She has been running creative writing workshops for well over 15 years.
