Summer Reading Challenge
We’re teaming up with Ilkley Book Club and Bradford Libraries to support this years’ challenge, offering young readers, and their schools, the chance to win prizes for participating!
Turn up the volume on reading this summer, as The Reading Agency invites children to discover the joy of reading through Read to the Beat! — the music-themed Summer Reading Challenge 2026.
As part of the National Year of Reading, libraries are encouraging families to make reading part of their summer adventures. Children can sign up at the library or online, set their reading goals, and enjoy rewards along the way. The challenge takes place from Saturday 4 July to Saturday 12 September.
With a fantastic collection of books inspired by music from around the world, children can explore stories, poetry, graphic novels, and non-fiction for all reading levels. Best of all, books are FREE to borrow from your local library.
To give young readers even more incentive to get involved we are partnering with the Ilkley Book Club and Bradford Libraries, offering a fantastic prize draw for participating young readers AND their school!
The draw is open to children aged 4-11 attending a local Ilkley primary school – see below list / T&C’s for eligible schools.
There are two age categories: 4-7yrs and 8-11yrs. Prizes include: £100 book tokens for each winning child and £100 book tokens for their school, plus book bundles and tickets to this year’s Children’s Headline event at the Ilkley Literature Festival, taking place on Saturday 17 October. There will also be a prize giving as part of the event!
Participating is easy – sign up at Addingham, Ilkley, Burley-in-Wharfedale or Menston library and young readers will be automatically entered into the draw!
