103. Emily Zobel Marshall: Measuring Sky, Unmapping Land
Decolonial Poetics Nature Walk and Workshop
In this immersive walking and poetry workshop led by acclaimed poet, author and academic Emily Zobel Marshall, we will use a cyanometer (an 18th-century tool invented to quantify the blueness of the sky) as a starting point to challenge traditional ways of seeing the landscape. Through observing the woods and moors of Ilkley, we will pair ‘precision looking’ with decolonial poetic practice, asking: ‘Whose perspective defines how we read nature?’ and ‘How do our personal histories shape our relationships to place?’
*Access note: Walking routes involve uneven terrain, inclines and outdoor steps. Please come prepared with appropriate footwear and a raincoat!
