Acclaimed writer and historian Nandini Das introduces us to the travellers and adventurers who connected the British Isles to the wider world: Venetian glassmakers, African innkeepers, Native American envoys, Flemish artists, descendants of people enslaved in the Americas, and a Kentish navigator who became Japan's first English samurai. Jill has spent 35 years as a journalist including 30 years as an on-air BBC foreign news correspondent and BBC programme presenter – through this role she has interviewed thousands of people – from different cultures, different walks of life from refugees to prime ministers. Her 14th novel was recently published March 2026 with her latest documentary aired in May 2026.
