78. Dominic Gregory: Lifeboat at the End of the World
If you’ve ever been awed at the power and vastness of the seas, you’ll have wondered what kind of person voluntarily sets sail to save others. RNLI volunteer Dominic Gregory, based at Dungeness on the English Channel, introduces the remarkable yet ordinary men and women who give up their time, livelihoods and safety to brave wind, tide and storms. Hear Gregory share his experiences; the smells of the station, the emotions when the call to ‘a shout’ comes, and – above all – the teamwork and trust.
This event will be chaired by Sally Johnson.
Sally Johnson is Emeritus Professor of Linguistics in the School of Modern Languages, Cultures and Societies at the University of Leeds. She is author/co-editor of several books on aspects of language and inequality in relation to both English and German.
