86. Simon Armitage: Gilgamesh
Simon Armitage returns to Ilkley Literature Festival to launch his exhilarating new verse translation of the ancient epic poem Gilgamesh. The Poet Laureate has spent over a decade working on this new version of Gilgamesh, which originated in Ancient Mesopotamia nearly 4,000 years ago, combining compelling verse with commentary and context. Whilst taking us back to the very origins of civilisation and storytelling, Armitage immerses us in a very modern story of Gilgamesh’s desperate quest for immortality, through a series of extraordinary adventures.
There will be a BSL interpreter at this event.
