Opportunities for Writers at ILF19

We are inviting applications from new and emerging writers for a selection of opportunities at this year’s Festival.

The popular Festival Fringe returns this year with a new look and format. Taking place over one weekend (5 – 6 October), the Fringe will be a smorgasbord of delights and surprises for audiences to sample, produced and hosted by Fringe partners Playful Being. Mixing scheduled events with improvised pop-ups, drop-ins and promenades, the Fringe will showcase a diverse range of voices and genres.

We also have two micro-commissions of £500 available to fund projects that explore new ways of creating or promoting poetry, fiction, non-fiction or spoken word in the Northern region. The micro-commissions are designed to showcase new work by emerging / mid-career writers from under-represented backgrounds based in the North of England, particularly enabling writers to collaborate with other artists across artforms (ie dance, music, film, visual).

Finally, we are looking for a talented poet at the start of their career to be the new Apprentice Poet in Residence. The Apprentice Poet in Residence will create their own Festival event and workshop, create a commission inspired by the Festival’s themes and have the opportunity to work with the 2019 Poet in Residence.
